Important Compliance Updates for Australian Businesses from 1 July 2025

Are you prepared for the upcoming compliance changes? From 1 July 2025, two key workplace changes will take effect that every business owner needs to be across:

1. Award Wage Increase – 3.5%

The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.5% increase to the National Minimum Wage and all modern award minimum wages.

  • New National Minimum Wage: $948.70 per week or $24.95 per hour (based on a 38-hour week).
  • This applies from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025.
  • Ensure your payroll system reflects the updated rates and review any employment contracts that may need adjustment.

2. Superannuation Guarantee Increase – Up to 12%

From the same date, the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate will increase from 11.5% to 12%.

  • This applies to all eligible employees.
  • Businesses must update their payroll systems to meet the new SG obligation.
  • Check if your employees are paid a “base plus super” or an “inclusive” rate, as this may impact your total remuneration costs.

What You Need To Do Now

  • Review your payroll systems to ensure wage and super rates are updated.
  • Communicate changes with your team, especially if these adjustments will affect their take-home pay.
  • Review employment contracts, especially where pay rates are close to the minimum or include super.
  • Budget for increased labour costs, especially for casual or award-reliant employees.
